English: In the Jungle - Working on a Cutting. Rock Clearing after Blasting

image recto: A group of eight Prisoners of War. Their clothes are threadbare, and they carry baskets of rocks in a continuous chain towards the left of the picture, returning towards the right with empty baskets. They are watched over by two Japanese soldiers on the rocks behind them, one standing and carrying a long bamboo cane, the other, wearing round glasses, seated on the right with a rifle in his lap.
